Reminder: 2025 Employment Laws Are Now in Effect!

With 2025 underway, it’s important to remember that new employment laws effective January 1, 2025, are now in place. Employers should already be familiar with these regulations.

California:

  • AB 2499: Expands crime victim leave to allow employees to take time off to help a family member who is a victim of violence and increases the circumstances when this leave can be taken.
  • AB 2123: Employers can no longer require employees to use up to two weeks of accrued vacation before receiving Paid Family Leave benefits.
  • SB 1100: Employers can't list a driver's license as a preferred job qualification unless certain conditions are met, even if driving is part of the job.
  • SB 988: Sets requirements for employers who form agreements with freelance workers for services worth $250 or more.
  • SB 399: Employers can't discriminate against employees for refusing to attend employer-sponsored meetings or receive employer communications about religious or political matters.
